This webinar series is suitable for midwives, doulas, obstetricians, NICU nurses, bodyworkers, lactation consultants and other professionals who work in the perinatal field.

It will involve a blend of cognitive learning as well as facilitated online discussion, somatic practices and a Facebook group for ongoing dialogue. Participants will have access to recorded webinars and notes on the topic leading up to the facilitated three-hour live webinar.

The workshop is designed to help you to:

  • understand the roots of trauma within the autonomic nervous system
  • clarify the predictors of birth trauma in pregnancy and birth
  • learn about the conditions that support nervous system regulation in birth
  • appreciate the delicate balance between the primal states of deep surrender versus survival
  • become mindful around positive language in the birth room
  • explore issues of informed consent and client boundaries
  • provide effective support when a client is triggered into fight, flight, freeze or appease responses
  • tune in to how clients can discharge traumatic stress postnatally
  • recognize the importance of timely and person-centred birth debriefing
  • own the value of your therapeutic presence in reducing the potential for birth trauma
