Pleasure, Instincts & Inner Boundaries:

an embodiment journey for women
I'd love to attend

Next WORKSHOP:

Sunday 1 March, 2020
10:00 am to 5:30 pm

Pulse

149B Glenlyon Road, Brunswick VIC

Have you attended countless feminine embodiment retreats but still find pleasure elusive?

Do you keep busy so that you don’t have to feel your feelings?

Does your body feel like a war zone or have pockets of nothingness?

Do you find it hard to say No to some people?

Or do you loop around in patterns of relating that are not serving you?

If this sounds like you, it could be that your protective survival instincts are hijacking your desires in attempts to keep you safe. It may also be a sign of unresolved trauma from the past playing out in your current life.

As a human mammal, you are hard-wired for safety as well as connection. But sadly, these don’t always come in the same package for some.

Your autonomic nervous system underlies all of your other functions, including your ability to make rational and considered choices. It operates to protect you in moments of threat or challenge. When there are unresolved challenges and triggers from the past, these old survival patterns can constantly run the show. They stop you from being fully present and responding in a novel way in the here and now.

Both ‘big and little T traumas’ can lead to uncomfortable feelings and sensations in your body. These may be felt as pain and a lack of flow, numbness, or anything in between. And to avoid those feelings, you may have unwittingly placed a tight lid on top of them. This would have led to further numbing out and disconnection from your body, and your pleasure.

Depending on how long these default patterns have dominated, they can lead to a lifetime of frustration, helplessness, isolation, shutdown, shame, and chronic unwellness.

They may also predispose you to attracting people into your life who help you replay persistent trauma loops.

This inaugural trauma-informed workshop has been been especially curated to help you slow right down in order to:

  • understand how your survival physiology shapes your behaviours, your life choices and your access to pleasure

  • explore the impact of past challenges on your nervous system and body

  • feel into your instinctual boundaries

  • clarify your true Yes and No

  • awaken sensation in your sublime female body

  • recognize your ‘brakes’ and ‘accelerators’ in opening to pleasure

  • appreciate how your early patterns of relating may play out in current relationships

The workshop will be a blend of somatic and cognitive learning, including feminine embodiment practices and interactive processes in pairs or small groups. There may be consensual touch involved but the processes will not include any nudity. Due to its content, the workshop is open to vulva-owners only.

While the facilitators both work in the field of trauma, this workshop is not a substitute for 1:1 therapy. It is also not suitable for anyone attempting to manage acute symptoms of trauma. If you have experienced trauma in the past, it may provide a useful springboard for further exploration of your patterns with a therapist.

Unravelling your outdated patterns which restrict your experience of pleasure will take time and dedication. However, every forward step in your journey will translate to accessing greater flow and pleasure in order to live the life that you desire.

The information is drawn from our combined experiences of working in the fields of trauma, counselling, Art therapy, Mindfulness and ACT, bodywork, birth, human sexuality and women’s Tantric yoga.

In particular, it is influenced by our work in Somatic Experiencing® and Somatic Practice®, two mind-body approaches to trauma resolution which are underpinned by the Polyvagal Theory and are gaining momentum in Australia and NZ.
